PHASE IV CONSTRUCTION
The Purpose of this Race
In 2018, The Johnson City-Washington County Veterans Memorial Foundation raised enough funds to complete Phase III of the memorial with help from the proceeds of this race. Now they are on a mission to raise enough money to get Phase IV started. All proceeds from this race will again go to the Veterans Memorial for the expansion in years to come. Join us for the 2nd Annual Run For Our Veterans 5k.
DONATIONS
All proceeds for this race will go to the Johnson City-Washington County Veterans’ Memorial Foundation to help with the costs of Phase IV. However, this is not nearly enough. We will provide a way to donate at the race or you can mail in a donation to:

We are extremely proud by all of our Veterans that have served our country and want to accommodate all of them. So, we excited to offer a competitive and fitness level hand cycle division in our 5k race. To assist with logistics, we request that all hand cyclist register by May 17, 2019. If we do not have any participants registered by this date, we will need to eliminate the category for this year’s event.

The Johnson City-Washington County Veterans’ Memorial is a living tribute that honors the past, present, and future military service and sacrifice of the men and women who have and will continue to bear the cost of our freedom.
The JC-WC Veterans’ Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that a continuous demand for inscriptions on the concentric rows of black granite panels for those veterans who were fortunate enough to serve and return home will soon require the construction of Phase III. This addition will make room for another 1,248 inscriptions.
The estimated cost of Phase III ranges from $155,000 to $170,000. The Foundation holds a 501(c)(3)(tax exempt) status, and its members serve as the advocate and governing body for the stewardship of the memorial as well as host the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies on site.
In 2018, there was enough funds raised to complete Phase III.

If you are a Veteran or know a Veteran whose name and branch of service should be engraved on the Memorial, we strongly encourage you to submit an application. This is a living Memorial and we are committed to accept applications for inscriptions as long as there are Veterans whose honorable military service needs to be recognized.
To have a name placed on the Memorial, please download and mail the attached application.
In addition to the application, the Veteran must meet the following criteria:
1. Veterans can be either living or deceased who are presently serving or have served on active duty or in a Reserve Component. When submitting an application you must include some proof of service with an honorable discharge. This could be a copy of a DD Form 214, Honorable Discharge Order or similar documents, a photograph of a headstone at a Military cemetery or of a bronze footstone issued by the Veterans’ Administration. If you encounter difficulty in locating proof of honorable service, the Veterans’ Memorial Foundation will work with you to find a possible solution.
2. The Veteran must have a connection to Washington County by birth, education, profession, friendship, or previous or current residency. In 2008, the Veterans’ Memorial Committee approved a recommendation to allow persons who presently reside in Washington County or who once lived in the community to purchase Memorial inscriptions in honor of their relatives or friends who may not reside or may never have resided in the local area.
3. Cost for an inscription on the Black Granite is $100 for engraving and maintaining the Memorial; however, there is no inscription fee required for Veterans who are Killed In Action (KIA), Prisoners Of War (POW), or Missing In Action (MIA).
