Today, I was listening to a podcast, “How to hear the voice of God” by Joel Schmidgall. He is on staff with National Community Church (NCC) in D.C. I was drawn to listen to this particular sermon because recently I have been presented with several opportunities and needing direction. Currently, The Goose Chase is the staff of one unless you count my dog Thomas. I like to say he is my administrative assistant but he really stinks at typing. However, I am very blessed to have a great group of friends that often volunteer and counsel me so the “we” I often refer to is the cumulative of all of them too. I consider them apart of The Goose Chase crew.
During the podcast and throughout this year, Jeremiah 29 continues to be mentioned so this morning I read this passage…
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 29:11-14
Are we seeking God with our whole heart? Are there things in our lives causing a distraction? Recently, I was talking to someone who was worried about her TV and not having it because it is the only thing she has to do to occupy her time. I know reading that you are probably like “Wow…really?” but honestly we all have things that we think we can’t live without. I too was a TV junky and for the past couple of years I have felt like TV was becoming an idol. For about a year, I knew that I needed to turn it off. Well, it took lunch with a friend to finally get my attention. The funny thing is she was simply sharing something random and God used it to speak to my heart. I immediately left that lunch and had it turned off. Honestly, my life hasn’t been the same since that day. It was like God was saying…“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future….if you would just turn off your TV and seek Me… From that experience, God put on my heart to start The Goose Chase and He continues to WOW me each and every day. I would encourage you that if God is prompting you to remove something that is hindering your walk with Him, you might want to listen. That one decision could change the projection of your life. I am a firm believer that God has GREAT things for us so as the Nike slogan goes…”Just do it!”
